How to keep live crickets for Purple Martins
An idea of how you might keep live crickets when ordering 1000. Some choose to freeze and feed thawed crickets. I like to keep them live. It's really not that hard. Warmer is best. If inside a cool garage I've covered with a board and enough heat comes from a light bulb left on.

That is SUCH amazing footage! I feel so good knowing I am doing all I can to promote this wonderful bird!❤
lol🥱🥱🥱
Humans mess with wildlife WAY TOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!! I swear, leave nature to itself.
I do not like House Sparrows. They killed the momma Eastern Bluebied and her babies in the nest.
What are you flinging with your plastic spoon , feed?
love the Purple Martians.
What's going to happen to our migratory birds when the politicians approve the installation of the huge wind fans on LA and TX coast lines?
Instead of standing there talking , walk the heck away , duh !!! 👎👎👎
We don't have Cardinals on the west coast. You're so lucky!!!
Awesome awesome awesome video. Thank you
Invasive species....if you feed them, they will take over your yard and no song birds or other smaller birds will be around, the House Sparrow chases them out!! I do not like them at all!
I live in north east Louisiana and have about 40 martins per season Thanks
I like it 💝😇Wow😮💖
Thanks for your video. It was informative.
miserable, insufferable birds. Non-native and invasive. All they do is monotone chirp all day begging for sex. The incel of birds. Bullies by nature...taking over feeders..killing other native birds. worst birds on the face of the earth.
Loved the way you explained and showed the house sparrows .
Thank you for the video! These great birds have been nesting under my porch my entire life. I so much enjoy watching this cycle every year
That's Barn swallows you have, not Purple Martins.
@@jameslomenzo1139 yes sir you are correct. We have since found this out.
I love the sounds the Purple Martins make.
I liked see the slow motion shots of the birds. Did you use an outdoor wildlife camera? Thanks for the great video.
My pet is a house sparrow
is the purple martin population stable now. i know it was declining for several decades.
This is wonderful. I found this video after watching two YT videos on sightings of modern pterosaurs (pterodactyls). My wife and I are now delighted to know about Purple Martins.
NOW THAT WAS COOL... Nice video my friend. EXCELLENT ‼️🙏🙏🙏
I despise house sparrows... the vile cretins. They overcrowded my feeders to the point I had to stop feeding birds.
See the tan eyeline
I notice the house sparrow has a shorter chunkier beak - more like a cardinal's beak than the longer beak of a wren. I also notice that the bluejays are NOT bullies at the feeder (at least for me). I have never seen it! But they are loud and defensive when a predator is around!
I feed bluejays peanuts that are still in their shell at a separate platform feeder so they don't have to fight off other types of birds. Cardinals will sometimes take peanuts in their shell too.
very helpful, if I could I’d pass ya a beer
I find it funny when sparrows get called an invasive species Aren't we all ?
It's quite different when you're talking about an ecosystem.
Budding nest box provider. Thank you for this video! very helpful!
I'll reiterate a year old comment from Rebecca. Best video I've seen on identifying and seperating these two birds. Thanks .
We have starling resistant entry's and we trap and dispatch the English Sparrow.
We have been successful Martin Land Lords for over 10 years now. We spend a lot of money on housing that didn't work. We purchased a "T" 14 and 4 gourds and we had martins checking out our offering within two weeks. Following year we had 6 pairs. We are now full up. 18 cavities. We keep a record and do nest checks frequently. Last year, 2019, we fledged 86 Martin hatch-lings. We have taught our birds to feed from a tray on a pole and in inclement weather we pop for a meal of meal worms, scrambled eggs and washed egg shells. We save egg shells all year long.
Son hermosos!! 🌹💖
Got my 1st pair last week and already a 2nd pair! So excited!
Thank you for the fine video. We’re new to birding and are just starting the process of Bluebird and Purple Martin landlording. We have a few Bluebirds nesting, and a few Tree Swallows that are nesting in our Purple Martin house. It looks like we have to wait till next year for Martins. We have Song Sparrows also, so thanks again for the clear instructions on how to identify the House Sparrows.
Effective teaching.
OMG i want to visit there!such good people!
Just saying hello to fellow a Stoll! My grandfather's name was Barthol Henry Stoll. I was Stoll until marriage.
Awesome footage!
Amazing!
Thankyou !! this was very helpful. I have had a hard time identifing the females . The belly has been the most confusing part.
Yeah I want to make sure I can identify house sparrows before I begin trapping them. I don't want to be killing some other type of bird species that looks similar.
These little guys have taken over our bird feeders! Oh well, I still enjoy watching them (:
Thank you so much for posting this video. Im now ready to knock down the english house sparrow population!
Google User Murderer What country are you from? Bird is the same as you and me You have no right to kill them If you're a Jew then I can understand I have a wonderful Jack sparrow that shares my house with me Free to leave anytime Smart with a sense of humour Love the company he provides me in Canada's 7 month winters I've known crows magpies red polls waxwings chicken rooster pigs and dogs horses snakes lizards and cats pigeons doves lovebirds and budgies African greys quails and doves finches conures toads and iguanas I am happy to have my sparrow friend Don't kill them please
I wish I could get rid of these birds. I’m overwhelmed by them. What are the guaranteed seed they will jot eat? Actually is there a seed finches and sparrows won’t eat?
You can trap them. Several traps are available.
Wow u people don't realize you are the problem NOT the birds
house sparell
Excellent video. Thank you for posting it.
that's pretty cool .. I am in the country outside LaGrange Ga.... I only have about 10 gourds but count about 20 birds... we feel so sad when they leave us we always sit on porch an watch them early morning with our coffee... an so happy when they come back ...I was a little late putting out gourds this year by several weeks... put them up turn my back headed for house turned an looked back an one was already there it was like they were in the tress waiting for their home...so much fun..
interesting
This is the BEST video I've seen for identifying Sparrows!!! Thank you so much!!
Yeah I'm looking to make sure I can identify house sparrows for certain before I begin trapping and disposing of them.
